If you insert a wood stove into a fireplace wont the fireplace walls hinder the heat from spreading out?

What I mean is doesnt the heat on wood stove come out from all angles of the stove and so if it is surrounded by fireplace walls 75% of the heat will be blocked or just run up the chimney? Is this true will it defeat the purpose? If so would it be a good idea to just have the stove in front of the fireplace with the vent going up the chimney still?

You buy an efficient air tight stove that has a fan built in to move air through pipes that are heated inside the fireplace.
Heat from the sides and back will heat up the brick in the walls and the temperature will rise. So that makes the front the coldest place for the heat to radiate. So yes it will block the heat from the back and sides and will increase the radiation of heat out the front. A standing stove will put more heat into the room, but a fireplace insert will make the fireplace move from a very inefficient heating source to a much more efficient heating source. Even having a fireplace that is not sealed at the front will allow heat to escape up the chimney when it is not being used. The fireplace insert will reduce that loss dramatically.
