vented fireplace insert

i currently have a vent free gas insert in my fireplace. i dont like natural gas.?
your thoughts about removing this and using wood in the fireplace
i have a wood fireplace i would rather have what you have.it is basically for show anyway fireplaces do not heat the house up much.wood stove thats another story.
