Is it necessary babyproof home and hearth?

We have a fireplace with gas logs. The doors (glass and screen) that we keep closed when not in use. The home is brick and stone. It is only about 2-3 inches tall, probably 6 feet long. Do I need to babyproof (pills) or just let it go and see her when she is in the living room on the ground.
