Need tips on heating two-level rancher, propane, wood stove, pellet stove, etc?
I bought a two-level rancher with finished basement, however, simply baseoard heat and two fireplaces (one on ground floor, one in the basement). They were inspected in good condition. My question is, suggestions on alternative heating sources from baseboard heat cost me ~ $ 450/mo for warmth. The house was built in 1963, but has modern double pane windows. Each level is about 1000 ft ^ 2 with 8 'ceilings. He said the house was plumbed for propane fireplaces in the past, but no system is there. Should I get wood stove insert, pellet stove insert, propane, natural gas or other heat source. It has a network of ducts and the old central air, but do not think the heatpump would be efficient in the northeast region. Cost-month wise and efficiency, which is considered the Best hybrid heating system for my case? thanks in advance
New heat pumps are surprisingly powerful. If it were me I would go with a heat pump with a wood stove insert. with a return of the heating in the room. That way if it gets cold in the heat pump can start up the wood stove. the return is circulated hot air through the house. You can also heat the house like this, with the fan so the heat pump it off.
