What is the required distance between a stand-alone fireplace and a heat shield panel?
I am installing a vintage 1950s stand-alone Majestic wood burning fireplace. I want to be sure that I have a safe distance between the heat shield and the fireplace. The fire place is going into a corner with concrete dry wall. Any suggestions?

ussually about 18″ depending on code in your area. Unfortunately I do not know of any insurance company that would allow you to do this as any older wood stove would not have any CSA approval or UL approval sticker. It must meet code requirements and labratory testing if it can be used, otherwise you could burn down your house and have no insurance.
