Cracks in plaster at the top of a wood fireplace – What is the best way to fix them?
This is an older house (50 years) with plaster walls, and there are cracks in the plaster around the top of a wood fireplace opening; the front of the fireplace opening is brick, topped by a wood mantle, the about 3 ft of painted plaster, with a decorative plaster ceiling. This includes fine cracks at the smooth front part, and deeper cracks at the right-hand side where the fireplace surround is at a right-angle to the wall. What is the best way to fix them?
buy a gallon of plaster and a plaster knife, fill in the cracks and let dry overnite and sand down to match the existing then paint. easy as pie.
