How do I know before I call a fireplace installer if the flue is large enough?
I am thinking about having a wood burning stove installed in a space where an old ceramic heater was. The old ceramic heater was installed in a space that looks like a fireplace, with the mantel and everything. I want to know before I even bather with a pro, if the flue can handle it. If it can’t I am not even going to bother because it would be too big of a renovation. Any help would be appreciated.

The proper and safest thing to do is to have the pro you’re talking about come to EXAMINE the flue, and determine whether it is safe to use with the particular stove you want to install.
Only a pro is qualified to make that analysis and determination. Make sure you actually get a pro, and not just some “wanna be.” This decision is too critical, safety-wise, to be made without a bona fide Professional.
Usually, they will provide that service for free [hoping to get the job later], or at a very modest fee.
