Why do wasps hang out by our gas fireplace vent?
I live in a condo complex. We have natural gas fireplaces with direct vents, and little silver boxes outside that are the exhaust vents. We have a wasp issue, in that the wasps seem to love these vents. Usually I only see one or two, and they’re hovering around exhaust vent. I thought perhaps they had made a nest inside the vent of my condo, but then noticed one hovering around my neighbor’s vent. This wouldn’t be such a huge issue, if not for three things. One, both our vents are within a couple feet of the walkway from the parking lot to our front doors, so they can come after us anytime they want. Two, even though I know they won’t come after us unprovoked, I have an irrational fear of stinging insects and I do not like having to run away from my own front door, particularly in heels. And three, I have had two fly into my home somehow (through the fireplace? An a/c vent?) and that is NOT cool. Does anyone know why they would like the gas, and how to get rid of them?
Ask the condo association to have an exterminator look at this. There may be a bigger nest nearby.
