What causes the flames to go out in a propane double sided fireplace after being on for only a few seconds?

I finally got the pilot light to light and stay lit after venting the air out of the lines and now the fireplace burners ignite but then go out after a few seconds of normal burn… please help. The fireplace has not been used in a year due to not knowing we had propane in it – the gas company did not tell us they refilled it…thanks much

If you are able to keep the pilot lit I don’t think the problem is the pilot safety (thermocouple). My guess would be a defective gas valve, but it is hard to say without actually testing it.
