Need help with HDTV and Surround Sound setup!?
My father-in-law is building a house and they are about a week away from moving in and he realized that they did not give him a way to get more cable to where his TV will be. He has a 50″ plasma that he is going to mount on the wall and he has an outlet and coaxial run behind it on the wall above his fireplace. Does anyone have any ideas on how to transmit HD signal and his DVD player using just one coaxial outlet?
I just had a similar problem with our new construction. They wanted to run coax only, and you can’t send HD via coax unless you’re the cable company. I ended up hooking all of my sources (fios box, dvd, etc.) to an HDMI switching receiver, then run a single HDMI from there into the basement and then back up into the wall to the HDTV.
However, the one piece of the puzzle I “ordered” and never got was an outlet (AC), so luck is on your side there — no permits needed.
Get somebody who is a fish-tape wizard and run the correct cable(s). It’s well worth it.
