After a firplace fire, my house smells when the outside temperature is warmer than the inside.?
When using our fireplace, which has a blower insert, the house smells of smoke when the outdoors temperature is warmer that the inside of the house, even weeks after the last use. There is no flue to close, but we keep the doors tightly closed. How may we eliminate that odor?
That is a bit baffling. I would expect it to smell inside the house when the temperature outside is Colder, since the cold are would force itselft down through the chimmney and into the warmer house.
The only thing I could suggest, although its not an inexpensive solution and there are no guarantees, but maybe you should consider getting a flue installed.
I’ve been working on restoring a house built in the early 20’s. There are several stone fireplaces in the house, none of which had flues. I had flues installed in each one and it really helps to be able to close the damper once the fire is out.
