How can I remove rust from a fireplace screen outdoors?

I have a Coleman fireplace outside with a metal screen that is has become very rusty. I like to paint but I know I have to remove all rust, or return. I would request a new screen, but has been suspended.

How do remove paint or rust …… spray with cooking spray screen even better than Pam rubbed with lard or butter …. will turn one color nice dark red black. there really is no other paint a layer of dust that will last …. if you want a nice black screen with hot wax rub down and bake in oven at 500 degrees for several hours …. Of course, this will launch the smoke alarm and smell pretty bad.
